I was grounded this spring so I concentrated on my garden and doing art. Lots of experimenting with both. I’m determined to make up for lack of travel later this summer! I was supposed to be in France in June for two weeks, but considering the heat they had there I’m kind of glad I had to cancel.
So far this year I’ve been working with oils, gouache, and watercolors. Even though I’ve been painting for 50 years, I continue to experiment and learn. Sometimes my experiments don’t turn out but it never keeps me from trying. Who wants to keep doing the same thing year after year?
I loved doing this aerial view of our town! In it I’m experimenting with a more colorful sky. When I do pieces like this I often squish the buildings together just to make a better composition.
I’ve painted these buildings so many times I can usually do them out of my head. But they are something that really exists, the sunflower painting below was done totally out of my head and it was fun. So was the next painting of the chair on the porch.
The platter is a commission of an Inn; I was contacted through my website to do it. What a beautiful place! I’d love to tour it at some point. The chair painting is available at Carolina Creations.
This large orchid vase was done for myself but others were interested so I still don’t have one for myself! I grew orchids for years. They loved every house I have ever lived in until this one. I do not know why they don’t like it so I have to be happy with paintings or pots with orchids on them.
I also bought a fake orchid. My friend Irene said it looks so real, except for the tag that is still on it, oops!
Most of the pottery I do I just make up out of my head unless I’m doing a particular building like the Inn.
I’m always trying to come up with new ideas for my children’s pottery. This wilderness bank was fun to do.
I’m hoping this summer I can get back at doing some garden sculpture. Here are a few pieces I’ve done in the past. This year I want to do a totem for my garden. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of the bird totem when finished.
I had to do a few more pieces with the Sudan Temple on them. I always felt the building added some intrigue to our skyline.
I can’t tell you how many paintings I’ve done of Christ Church but this is just the second I’ve done of the churchyard. What a beautiful spot in our downtown.
A special-order platter for Epiphany. Responsibility has a lot of i’s; fortunately, I was able to correct that.
