Christmas cards through the years

January 31, 2026

I have been doing New Bern Christmas cards every year since 1990. Here are some of them! I’ve done them with watercolors, ink, underglazes on clay, mixed media, collage, etc! I’m always experimenting and trying new things. Someone suggested I do some with snow…. I think I have!

I am missing a few here I will have to see if I have their images. So far here are 23 of them 11 to go.

People are buying fewer Christmas cards these days so I will cut back on the number I print going forward. I send Christmas cards to some folks I don’t see often and I include a Christmas letter talking about my year.

Some people see Christmas letters as boastful, too much information, etc. But I see it as family history, even if the family I write about these days is just me. My Mom wrote a Christmas letter for over 40 years and they are a cherished family history. She was a writer and often they were 8 1/2 x 14” two sides and written in verse!
